What is the best way to travel from Sydney to Alice Springs? Each has its advantages and disadvantages. Buses have the advantage of being cheap but if you are tall, you won't fit in the seats. Planes have the same problem for tall people but as you are only in a plane for a couple of hours rather than a few days, it is not so bad. Planes are also cheap if you get a good deal. Driving is fun if you want to see the country on the way but it is a long way. From Sydney you can go through Broken Hill to Port Augusta then north to Alice Springs and Uluru or take one of the more southern routes along the Murrumbidgee and Murray to Adelaide then go north. The train is excellent and comfortable if you have a sleeper. Don't think of sitting up. You can either take the train to Melbourne then Adelaide to catch the Ghan or take the Indian Pacific across to Adelaide to catch the Ghan. From Alice Springs you can hire a car or take a tour to Uluru.
The quickest and probably cheapest way is to fly The most interesting way is to have an adventure and drive. To fly you wont see much at all but to drive you can take in so much including places such as Coober Pedy or do an oz experience trip. That could be fun

I did not get to see Alice Springs but we loved Ayers Rock (uluru).

I would recommend the "sounds of silence dinner" and Valley of the winds walk around Olga's too. Saw both sunrise and sunset which was simply amazing! What is the best way to travel from Sydney to Alice Springs?
I would either fly or take the train. If you want to see more of the land--take the train but I would suggest you book a sleeper and bring your own toiletries. The decision would be up to you--depends on how much time you have to spend.
The most direct way would be by coach or plane. Alternatively you could get the train from Sydney to Adelaide then board the Ghan (train) to Alice Springs. What is the best way to travel from Sydney to Alice Springs?
Fly first to Alice Springs, and then rent a car so that you can drive to Ayrers Rock.
I hired a car so you can stop/start when you want, but what are you classing as best way exactly??
