What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia?

I will be visiting Alice Springs and Sydney what is the cheapest mode of travel? Train, Bus, or Plane? What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia?...Plane try http://www.jetstar.com/au/en/index.aspx

The train is expensive and its takes long time, u need to go to Adelaide then head north NT. u take Indain-pacific from Sydney to Adelaide then The Ghan to Alice Springs.

As for the bus it is more expensive than going by air and it is so slow it will take u ages to go there http://www.greyhound.com.au/What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia?
Recently, when i was surfing through net regarding the best way to travel to Australia, then i got through a site where it has provided a lot of information and i think http://www.planbooktravel.com.au may help you regarding this and it also provides at an affordable cost. What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia?Considering those distances you are talking about, the cheapest mode would be bus, but I'd be seriously considering taking a plane instead due to the long and incredibly boring 1000's kilometres of nothing between places in Australia. What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia?
Unless you particularly want to see other parts of Australia, plane will be the cheapest way to get from Sydney to Alice Springs. I did a quick check, and saw plane fares from about $250 one way, and the bus at $400+ one way.

Also, the plane trip will be a bit over 4 hours, as opposed to 40+ hours on the bus (including the times waiting for transfers). Trains are even more expensive and slower than the bus, but generally let you travel in a bit more luxury. What is the cheapest way to travel in Australia? You could look into getting an airpass which you purchase in your home country. I don't know much about them because we can't buy them here, but believe thay can be good value if you want to go to places like Alice Springs. google 'airpass australia'

A Rex Backpacker Pass is another interesting and cheap way of getting around if you want to get off the beaten track, but it only goes as far as Coober Pedy (the underground opal mining town) and doesn't service Alice Springs.

Railpasses are also available - the Ghan train goes to Alice Springs:

conveinence wise and realatively cheap is planes.. buses take forever and trains do and are expensive..

look at www.virginblue.com.au, www.jetstar.com.au, www.qantas.com.au..

and walking is the cheapest but also the longest ;-)
Honestly, you would be crazy not to fly. It is such a large distance and will take over 4hours by plane. It is also not the best terrain to be traveling through by road.

If you were interested in going to Darwin or Adelaide, there is a train that runs to Alice Springs from both cities. The Ghan. It would be worth doing, other wise just fly from Sydney.

Cost wise, it will cost you much the same to be honest. You should be able to get airfares for around $250.
