What cable tv channels are safe for kids?

I just got cable tv for the first time in my life (I'm 36) my parents never believed in cable... didn't have a tv for years. Anyway, I have a 6 year old and want to know what channels are appropriate and not necessarily interesting to her, but safe (not violent, no bad language, not scary, not rude or disrespectful to police, teachers, parents, etc.)

I think these following are safe, please let me know if you agree of disagree: 1. Nickelodeon and Nick@Nite, 2. Hallmark channel 3. toon disney 4. disney channel 5. cartoon network, 6. history channel, 7. discovery channel, 8. animal planet. 9. nasa channel 10 turner classic movies 11 travel channel 12 food network 13 outdoor channel 14 weather channel 15. showtime 16. lifetime 17 abc family 18 golf channel 19 A%26amp;E 20 pbsWhat cable tv channels are safe for kids?
for a 6 year old.

Nick is good..but nick at night can get violent

hallmark---um..not really for a child of that age

toon disney..awesome

disney channel...awesome

cartoon network...it is ok, but watch it later in the day..the content could be too adult for your youngster

history channel...it is good and the child can learn from it...you just have to watch out for the scary stuff..mummies and stuff

discovery channel is my fav and great for kids to learn

animal planet..another great and informative channel

nasa....hmmm...never heard of...interesting

turner classic movies..there might be some inappropriate touching and kissing and stuff like that onthere..i would monitor that one

travel channel, food network, weather channel, are all good

outdoor channel...watch for the hunting segments

showtime...no no no no no...too many adult movies and bloody yucky ness

lifetime...kinda sappy channel..lots of stories about death on there

golf...bore...but sure why not

abc family..watch that one later in the day too...can get some topics on certain shows that are more adult in nature (drugs, sex.etc)

a%26amp;e...its ok...a bit boring though

pbs is great, but a 6 year old might find it too childish
Give them a bookWhat cable tv channels are safe for kids?
Take off 15 and 16. Lots of sex, drugs and abuse on those, not appropriate for a 6 year old.
I like PBS, disney channel, Nickelodeon, toon disney, cartoon network and animal planet.

My son is 4 years old. What cable tv channels are safe for kids?
My 3yo loves the OTB channel.
PBS kids is good and let them read books too.
All of the ones you picked except maybe A%26amp;E and sometimes even PBS. A%26amp;E shows some risque, crappy reality type shows now, as well as tv shows and movies that have language/situational stuff. PBS occasionally shows programs on Mystery or Frontline or such that may not be for children. But for the most part, it's safe.

and you definitely have to monitor what your kids watch on Showtime.
Don't depend on television to entertain you're child. You will end up very disappointed with the outcome.
Disney Channel is a really really good channel. It is really safe. Nick is a good channel and ABC Family has a lot of good family movies.
that is is just stupid now come on girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! those are not bad channels.
Nickelodeon or PBS, even disney
Believe it or not, I prefer "G" shows, and only a few "GP" rated shows - even today at 48 for myself.

For several yrs, I had only cable, and stuck with specific programs. I was unaware that subtle changes were occurring with the local networks (as far as morality %26amp; violence). I didn't go to modern movies (just AMC or TCM), so my genre of movies covered from silent pics to 1969 (preferred). I kinda put myself into a 'bubble' by choice.

Then, I happened to be visiting my sister %26amp; her hubby, who have only what an antennae will pick up-local channels. I was horrified at what I was seeing. I almost went into shock at the denegration of what was being presented morally. My sister %26amp; her hubby were just sitting there, desensatized over the years and had grown to not notice such agenda's over the screen. That was when I could see the incredible change in programming that I was not privvy to for many yrs.

So, I prefer cable or no TV at all. Of the channels you offered:

Fine to Great:

1,2,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,18.

Monitor:

3,4,5,16,17,20

Strongly monitor:

15,19

Unknown (never watched):

13

In any case, always monitor what your kids are subjected to - from the programming to the COMMERCIALS (oh yes, them too!). My brother who home schooled, always had the TV put to MUTE during commercials. That is an option.

Good luck on protecting your kids these days. The media agendas are multiple now, and won't back down - especially if we remain silent and just 'look the other way a/k/a change channels' which they LOVE, because then their ideas can continue on and on w/o legal wars or censorship by the watching/consumer public.

These are all okay, but Animal Planet might occasionally show gruesome images while Golf Channel will bore the poor little kid to death. TCM shows old movies some of which might not be totally appropriate for an unattended 6-year old
